Toontown is officially back at the Disneyland Resort and better than ever! The area that was previously a spot most would overlook, has now become the new go-to area for families with children of all ages. Let’s take an in-depth look at all the new offerings.
CenTOONial Park greets guests as they walk into Toontown with a beautiful and brightly colored fountain as its main feature. Not only is this fountain a pretty site to see, it also has small water tables for young children to play in on hot days! The park is also home to a large area shaded by the Dreaming Tree which was inspired by the tree Walt Disney himself would sit under and daydream. Tree roots protrude from the ground to provide convenient spots for guests to lounge or play! Be sure to check out this area at sunset, as the fountain is said to come to life in a “unique spectacle”.
Directly adjacent to CenTOONial Park is Donald’s Duck Pond, and as you may have guessed, it’s an area where you’re likely to get a little wet! This reimagined area includes a much-needed splash pad where kids – and adults! – can cool off on those hot Southern California days. You will also find plenty of interactive things for little ones to play on, which you will see is a common theme among all the new additions to Toontown.
Up next, we have Goofy’s How-to-Play Yard and the name definitely suits the place! This interactive playground is the perfect spot for your kiddos to get their wiggles out. From the musical sound garden to the rainbow slides, there is something fun for little ones of all ages. You can even explore inside Goofy’s house to find exactly what you’d expect to find – more kooky contraptions.
The fun continues as we make our way to Chip ‘n’ Dale’s GADGETcoaster. This attraction was previously Gadget’s Go Coaster, and the ride system has remained the same – and I’m so glad! It is the perfect first roller coaster for young kids to dip their toes into thrills. It’s under a minute, but does give you a taste of speed and sharp turns. This attraction has been spruced up to include Chip, Dale and the coaster’s inventor herself, Gadget!
The next stop on our tour around Toontown is a beautiful grassy area where you can enjoy the perfect picnic. This area will likely be the least crowded as it is tucked away between the GADGETcoaster and Mickey’s house. If you’re looking for a place to relax while your kiddos nap in the stroller or for a quiet place to feed your baby – this is a great spot!
Mickey and Minnie’s houses have remained the same as they were before Toontown’s closure, but this is not something you’ll want to skip. If you or someone in your group has meeting Mickey or Minnie on their must-do list, this is the best place to do so. You’ll get to walk through their houses and get some quality time with your favorite mouse!
Now we get to the good stuff – literally! Good Boy! Grocers and Cafe Daisy will be where you can grab yourself a meal while you’re visiting Toontown. If you’re in the mood for a healthy snack, Good Boy! Grocers has you covered. Check out the menu here! This will also be where you can grab the popular Perfect Picnic Basket. LCafe Daisy has more hearty options if you’re looking for a full meal. The Pizza Flop-Overs have received glowing reviews, and the Perfect Picnic Watermelon Lemonade looks absolutely delicious. You can see all the menu offerings for Cafe Daisy here. Mobile Ordering is available at Cafe Daisy only.
Finally, we come to the area of Toontown that opened with Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway with the kickoff to the Disney100 celebration back on January 27th. MMRR remains to be a popular choice among Disneyland guests, and if you haven’t heard, the queue is just as entertaining as the attraction! EnginEar Souvenirs, the gift shop as you exit this ride, opened recently and is your one-stop shop for Toontown goodies.
The buildings located to the right of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway have received a bit of a revamp, but they kept the quirky charm and playful interactions. The Dog Pound with the bendy jail cell bars is one feature my kids are happy to see again! The Firehouse has a new four-legged resident that likes to show his grimace anytime someone rings the doorbell. Roger Rabbit’s Cartoon Spin, located next to these buildings, has also re-opened with Toontown. This attraction remains the same as it was previously.
The last exciting change to come to Toontown are some new character meet and greets! For the first time ever, Pete (the friendly version from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse) is in Disneyland. He and Clarabelle Cow have been seen roaming Toontown since the re-opening. You can check the Disneyland app to see exactly when these friends will be out and about!
Mickey’s Toontown has become a completely new land that caters to the needs of ALL children, including those with disabilities or mobility devices. The lack of curbs in the play areas and the accessibility of the play structures ensure no kid is left out of the fun!
When you need a break from waiting in long lines, Toontown is the perfect escape. Itching to see it for yourself? ConciEARS is here to help!
