I am a proud Disney dad of a two and a half- year old son and three-month-year-old daughter.
I’ve loved Disney all my life and now sharing that love with my kids is exciting! Through my children’s eyes this becomes a new experience for me.
As a dad, some of my main duties include entertaining my son, and what better way to keep a wiry, almost-three-year-old busy than with upbeat Disney music? For my son, there is nothing better. Sometimes, he will make requests to play some of his favorite songs. And that is just the tip of the iceberg. He has also started to try singing, which is cute to hear, while turning into an impromptu dance party. Our bedtime routines also include music. My wife sings to him and he often requests Disney songs. She has an amazing voice and it’s wonderful to hear.
While I enjoy listening to music with my son, some of my favorite activities to do with both of my children is read them Disney books and to watch Disney movies. Story time is great because I get to include my daughter. While she is too young to understand what is going on, she smiles at the sound of my voice which warms my heart. Like requesting his favorite songs, my son will also pick specific stories based on the characters themselves. He can be found grabbing the books and mimicking dad’s impression of the characters while looking at the pictures. My son also likes to quote while watching some of his favorite Disney programs. There are still so many things to introduce them to whether it is new or old classics, but one of the best things about being a Dad is seeing that fascination through their eyes.
My son’s first trip to Disneyland was so exciting to be a part of. He frequently pointed to stickers given to him by Cast Members and saying, “Mickey!” His absolute favorite ride was The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh since that involves some of his favorite Disney characters. It was wonderful to watch him engaged and fascinated with everything going on. I look forward to our next Disney trip because not only will he be older but my daughter will also be able to join in on the fun.
Being a dad is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. While they will have other interests through their lives, being able to pass on that passion for Disney to my children will hold a special place in my heart. I am thankful that both my wife and I get to share in these experiences.
