Selecting Your Star Wars runDisney Race

by | Sep 14, 2018

Hi everybody! Excited about the upcoming Star Wars races in April, but not sure what all this stuff means? Between the Kessel Run, Rival Run, 10K, and Kids Races, what should you sign up for? There are a lot of decisions to make long before you ever lace up those shoes!

First off, you need to decide how long you want to run. You can choose between 5K, 10K, and half marathon lengths. The Rival Run Challenge is a fun combo option, too! Over two days, you get to run both the 10K and the half marathon. As a reward for your Jedi-level endurance, you get a third medal to celebrate your accomplishment! Oh, and three athletic shirts, too. One for each race and one for the challenge. #swagalert

Second, are you a Light-sider or do you tend toward the side with cookies? There is an unexplained drop-down choice in your registration this year. What kind of competition between the Light and the Dark can we expect? Only Disney knows for now!

For the Younglings, there are plenty of options, too. The Diaper Dash is an adorable crawl for kids under 12 months. There are also 100- and 200-meter dashes for the bigger kids. For those between 8 and 13, runDisney offers a one mile run.

If you miss the thrill of competing in both the old Light Side and Dark Side events, Disney is trying out a new option this year. The Kessel Run Challenge medal used to be awarded to those who braved races on both coasts. Now you can earn your medals through a virtual half marathon! This new race option pits you against your best time, your sabacc partners, speeder traffic, or whatever else you want to put in your way.

Disney has everybody covered! If you don’t want to lace up on race day, you can pick up a ChEAR Squad package to get some of your own gear. You also get access to a reserved grandstand area at the end of the race where you can cheer on the runners!

Signing up for all these races can be a challenge on its own. We’ll cover that on the next post here. Want to get involved? Come on over to our ConciEARS & Friends runDisney Facebook group and join in on the fun!
