Visitors to Hawai’i understandably want to experience as many of the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes as possible. A trip to the islands is not exactly as simple as finding a place to park in the Mickey and Friends Garage, after all. That’s why Disney offers a combo for all of your senses at its Aulani Resort.
The ‘Ōlelo Room checks all of those boxes. In Disney Parks parlance, the ‘Ōlelo Room is a lounge, offering drinks and appetizers until the late evening. There is plenty to experience here. Enough that you might want to skip your dinner plans and just order another sushi roll! Take a quick trip with us to Oahu and one of the premiere dining locations at Disney’s Aulani Resort.
Romantic Decor
The ‘Ōlelo Room rests on the bottom floor of the resort, underneath the main entrance. A short walk down a sweeping staircase and you will find the entrances to both the ‘Ōlelo Room and Makahiki, the resort’s buffet and character dining location. Take a left at the host stand and let the warm tones of dark wood and dim, yellow lighting surround you.
All around the indoor portion of the lounge you find wooden carvings along with typewriter-key-style lettering describing the item in the Hawaiian language. Decorations teach Hawaiian pronunciation and the alphabet. It’s a gorgeous room with plenty to take in. There is so much to see that you might miss the full bar and sushi prep area!
Venture outdoors to watch the sun set and enjoy an evening under the stars. The torches and lights around the lounge highlight the large koi pond along the perimeter of the dining area. The sounds of play in the pools start to diminish and the nearby rock work of the lazy river and its lush vegetation immerse you in a quiet paradise.
Live Music Nightly
Every night, different artists perform on the patio. All are local musicians an storytellers and you never know what experience you will find. Traditional Hawaiian music and tales of Hawaiian history are a given. You may find yourself sticking around much longer than you anticipated just to hear the next story of the islands.
This feature of the lounge is more than enough to set the mood for a relaxing night. You could have gone for a lengthy hike, toured the destinations all around the island, or just spent all day in the pool with your family. No matter your day’s activities, the live music makes a perfect endcap.
Food and Drink
While you and yours sit and unwind, you might as well have a meal of it. Or a snack. Or just a few beverages! The ‘Ōlelo Room has plenty to offer. Check out the general menu here!
The chefs do like to concoct specials here and there, so be sure to ask your server for their recommendations. The ‘Ōlelo Room houses a full sushi bar. You can order some classic rolls like the California Roll or Rainbow Roll or you could try something a little less conventional with a Peking Duck Roll. The lounge features several great Nigiri-style sushi and sashimi pieces as well.
If you want to experience the island’s specialty, choose from some of the Ahi tuna selections. Poke is everywhere at Aulani, but here it is a major highlight. When in Rome….
Not in the mood for fish? The Popcorn Fries are a highly recommended favorite! Buttery popcorn combined with French fries, wasabi, mayonnaise, and crunchy mochi might be your new favorite. Chicken wings with Korean barbecue sauce, edamame dishes, or vegan tacos might be up your alley. If you want something even meatier, check out the Kalua pork with Parmesan cheese or the Hawaiian beef sliders.
Kids aren’t left out of the culinary fun here! Chicken strips with barbeque dipping sauce or a mac and cheese casserole are sure to please. Warn your children ahead of time if you plan to sneak a few bites!
If your family likes to end the night with some sweets, check out the pineapple cobbler with macadamia nuts or the chocolate mousse with macadamia nuts and raspberry hibiscus reduction. Cheesecake with local Kona coffee and macadamia nut whipped cream is a hearty choice, too! You could also round out your evening with a classic ice cream sundae.
Cocktails and other libations abound at the ‘Ōlelo Room. Enjoy some classic cocktails like margaritas or mojitos or stick to the more tropical side with a mai tai or Blue Hawaii. For an added twist, order any of your cocktails to be served inside a pineapple!
The lounge features a fair selection of American and European wines. You can even unwind with a 20 year port from Portugal if you prefer. You can find domestic beers as well, but take a moment to try some of the local craft beers on draft. Kona and Maui beers are solid, but the brews from Honolulu Beerworks a short drive away are also excellent. Coconut water and tropical juices make for some delicious non-alcoholic cocktails as well!
In all, the ‘Ōlelo Room is the perfect way to round out your evening at Aulani Resort. No matter your persuasion, your family will find some indulgent options to calm down after a busy day in paradise. If you are just in the market for a romantic couples excursion, you are sure to enjoy your time.
