You are experiencing the magic of Disney on the high seas and are on your way to the Bahamas. What else can Disney add for you on this amazing trip? How about a day on Disney’s private island in Castaway Cay? You may not know that Disney created some movie history on the island, filming scenes for “Splash” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.” Assuming you didn’t bring a film crew on your cruise, what can you do on a private island?
Whether your family is small or huge, there are a lot of fun activities available to everyone. Let’s start off with the activities that are already included in your Cruise Line package. Castaway Family Beach is a great place to relax and enjoy great food that is just as all-inclusive as if you were back on the ship. Cookie’s BBQ is a great spot to enjoy some delicious lunch from the grill with burgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob, fried chicken sandwiches, pulled pork, etc. It also includes yummy ice cream and banana bread for dessert to enjoy on those hot island days.

There are also plenty of sports set up just far enough from the sand. Volleyball, tetherball, and soccer games are free for the family that wants to get some activity on the island.
Should you parents want some alone time on Castaway Cay there are three spots to drop off your kids. Scuttle’s Cove has lots of beach activities as well as meet and greets with Disney characters. Disney counselors will make sure your kids 12 and under play safe. For the early teens between the ages of 11 and 13, In Da Shade has excellent sports areas with ping-pong tables, basketball courts, pool tables, and more. Hide Out is a haven where your teens can lounge with great music playing in the background. While all your kids have fun elsewhere, you adults might want to slip away to Serenity Bay. Not only can you get some peace and quiet in this adults-only area, but you can visit massage cabanas to relax on the shore.
Now on to all the great activities that are worth the extra buck. If you only want to spend time with your family without worrying about all the other people on the island, you can rent your very own cabana on the beach. Think of it as your home far away from home during your time at Castaway Cay. There are plenty of activities for every type of person. If you are more of a sightseer, then bike rentals would be right up your alley. You can see the see the island while staying active! If you have a love for the water, there are plenty of things to do in the ocean. I recommend the snorkeling. This is something I always enjoy, seeing the creatures of the sea swimming beneath me. If you are observant, you may spot a sunken submarine from the former 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea attraction at Walt Disney World. Of course, there is always parasailing and kayaking as well. If you are into fishing, Castaway Cay offers exciting fishing excursions to get you back out on the water.
If you are tempted by any of the offerings at Castaway Cay, why not set up a trip for yourself? The cruises that visit the Bahamas disembark from Port Canaveral. Three- and four-night cruises stop at the Cay once, but those enjoying a five-night cruise get to visit twice.
