This is a tough time for all of us to be stuck at home and not be able to get out and experience the world around us. Is anyone having Disney vacation withdrawal and wondering when their next trip will be? In the meantime, why not do a Disney staycation with your family? Here are some things you can do to enjoy Disney while waiting for the parks to reopen in the future. Whether it is a daily thing or a special event, you can bring the Disney magic in your own home.
If you are just going for a bit of Disney in your everyday routine, here are some ideas to change up your day. One simple suggestion would be playing background music from your favorite Disney films, television series, or music from the parks. If you do not own Disney music, there are a few free streaming services that can allow you to create a playlist of your personal favorites. Check out Spectro Radio for plenty of Parks audio from around the world!
If you are looking for a more creative outlet, especially for those of you who have kids, why not do Disney arts and crafts? Some examples could include drawing your favorite Disney characters, doing your own Disney face paint, searching how to create your own Mickey Ears, etc. Another idea to consider could be theming the days in your week to specific Disney genres. For example, Monday could be Star Wars day, Tuesday could be Mickey and Friends, Frozen on Wednesday, and so on. You can bring your Disney theme to life by making use of the clothes you already have, Disney items in your house, or even crafting your own items and props. Our ConciEARS host a great collection on our Pinterest boards.
For those Disney runners out there, there may not be any runDisney events right now, but there are still virtual events coming up in the summer that you can train for and complete within your own time. The cool thing is that you will still get a medal for your completed run. Registration opens soon for these fun summer events. You can find out more from runDisney’s page.
If you are looking for a unique creative experience to bring the Disney parks to life in your own home, some families have recreated moments from their favorite rides. For families with younger children, you can take your kids on a virtual roller coaster by having footage from a ride on the TV with the kids sitting in a box while an adult simulates the movements of the ride. All these activities are wonderful ideas for keeping Disney a part of your daily lives.
Now that you have some ideas on how to incorporate the Disney magic into your daily lives, what about making something truly special for one evening or a whole weekend? First off, one fun idea would be having a movie night from your own Disney movie collection or streaming straight from Disney+. But why stop there? Make your movie nights more elaborate! Just last week my family and I put up our tent in our living room, giving us a camp-in experience complete with a barbecue. Because the tent had a large mesh screen, we were able to watch Moana on our TV from the tent. You can have a movie camp-in experience through your TV, laptop, portable DVD player, etc.
Of course, you don’t have to rearrange your living room to make for a special night or weekend. Set up a movie outside to enjoy the great outdoors, or even create your own drive-in movie experience! All you need is a bed sheet and a screen projector. If you don’t have a projector available to you, make your own red carpet premiere. Onward was just released on Disney+ and my family is going to get decked out to create our own special red carpet experience. We are glamming it up with fancy clothes and a candlelit dinner. We plan to order food to-go from our favorite local restaurant. If you want to keep with the Disney theme and want to make your own meal, then you can create a Disney style dish. Disney Parks Blog has a lot of recipes and our friends at Earz Up Podcast swear by their Disneyland gumbo recipe. If you need more suggestions, you can check out our Pinterest boards for some fun meal ideas.
