If you’re debating on which Disney Cruise to take, I’m here to tell you why the Caribbean is the place to be!
In January 2022, my husband and I boarded the Disney Fantasy for an 8-day, 7-night cruise and set sail first to Tortola. Before we left for our trip, we were given the opportunity to choose which excursion we wanted to do once we disembarked. Since it was our first cruise, we were amongst the last to choose and there were still so many options! We decided on a hike and beach tour of the island with a local guide. As our meetup time was later in the day, we spent the morning walking around Tortola and exploring the shops near the docks. Once it got close to our time for our excursion to start, we headed to the meeting room on the cruise. They led us off the boat and introduced us to our guide. He took us on a tour bus to some of the island’s highest points as he went over the history of Tortola and the views were amazing! We then spent the rest of the time hiking through the beautiful tropical island and swimming on a private beach with our tour group.
Our next stop was Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island. This was an experience like no other. Upon departure from the cruise, we were given towels and promptly greeted by Donald in his swimsuit ready to hit the beach! There were Photopass Photographer opportunities along the way with cute nautical Disney props. We even ran into Chip and Dale building a sand castle! Minnie and Mickey were sporting tropical outfits and they were so happy to have us join them while they soaked up the sun. There was a tram that could take us to different places around the island, but we wanted to walk and take it all in. They had a play area for little ones, a club just for teens, and a place for families to play games like basketball and ping-pong. We went shopping for souvenirs at the different gift shops and for anyone who forgot to pack their sand toys, the shops were full of options! We grabbed complimentary snacks from the bar and refreshments from the restaurant.
There were so many different rentals available; snorkeling gear, tubes, floats, bikes, and water activities like banana boats, fishing, and kayaking. Unfortunately, it was so windy the day we were docked that we weren’t able to rent anything, but that just gave us more time to relax and enjoy the island. We took the tram out to Serenity Bay, the adults-only beach on the island’s far side, and sat to watch the waves roll in for a bit. They had their own cabanas and float rentals just for anyone over the age of 18. On our way back to the main area we watched families running and walking the Castaway Cay 5k to earn their special medals. The best thing about this 5k was anyone could participate, no matter their age!
For lunch, we could choose to eat at one of the two restaurants as part of our complimentary meal which was a buffet of all different BBQ foods like burgers, chicken, vegetarian chili and so much more. After that we made our way to the family beaches, picked out lounge chairs close to the water, and watched people go down the water slides right in the middle of the water! Before we knew it, the cruise ship horn was blowing, signaling for everyone to return to the boat. We reluctantly strolled back and watched the sun set behind the Fantasy on such a glorious day.
