More Shows Returning to the Parks!

by | Apr 26, 2022

I don’t know about you, but the recent iterations of Disney Parks have been missing something. I don’t care about masks or distancing or any of that. Those are gone now. The big news these days is about what we are getting back!

Disney’s Animal Kingdom has long hosted a musical version of that classic Pixar film, Finding Nemo. The stage musical was written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and her husband, Robert Lopez. You might recognize these Disney names from other Disney projects like Frozen and Frozen 2 and Frozen: Live at the Hyperion. There’s a great pedigree behind the original show and you can hear more about it from the folks at The Supreme Resort, where they interview the actresses who played Nemo and Elsa from both stage shows. Here’s that link.

Anyway, the original Nemo show ran from 2007 into the pandemic closure of 2020. The songs of this show were written by one of Disney’s hottest teams of composers. Michael Curry designed amazing puppets to represent the characters of the show, coming off his success with the elaborate characters of Broadway’s The Lion King. This combo of talents created an incredible synergy that lasted for years, entertaining guests multiple times per day.

Back to that reopening business. Finding Nemo gets the treatment afforded to the big Disneyland shows that recently re-premiered to guests! Starting this summer at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, guests will once again file in and experience immersive delights under the sea in Finding Nemo: The Big Blue . . . and Beyond!

The title is a big lengthy, but the entertainment seems on point. Check out the preview from Disney Parks Blog below. Some of the songs from the original musical will return along with completely new sets and scenery. A giant LED screen will enhance the spectacle of elaborate puppets and a lush musical score.

We will have to wait a few months to see if Disney delivers, but the combo of a beloved Parks institution and new technology is an easy win for the Animal Kingdom.
