The Walt Disney Company is turning 100 this year and Walt’s original park Disney will be celebrating this milestone with new experiences, entertainment, and more throughout all of 2023. The 100 Years of Wonder (AKA Disney100) will celebrate Disney’s amazing creators and storytellers, and the families who have treasured the Magic in their hearts for multiple generations. This celebration will honor the past while bringing new experiences for our beloved characters and new heartwarming stories.
The celebration will start on January 27th and kick things off with the opening of Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. First opening at Disney World in March of 2020 this first-ever attraction starring Mickey and His Friends makes its way to Disneyland! The Disneyland ride has a new scene not included in the Florida version! Great for all ages you are transported into the wackiness of a Mickey Mouse cartoon aboard a train with Goofy as your conductor. With vibrant colors and unpredictable twists, it’s an experience that the whole family can enjoy. Upon opening day this attraction will be available through a virtual queue with times of 7:00 am and 1:00 pm to snag your spot. Individual Lightning Lanes will also be available for purchase as well.
A fan-favorite nighttime spectacular World of Color is getting updated for the event as “World of Color – One”. This will celebrate the storytelling legacy started by Walt Disney, illustrating how a single action, like a drop of water, creates a ripple that can grow into a wave of change. This is the first Disneyland Resort nighttime spectacular to feature characters, music, and moments from Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, the Avengers, and Star Wars in the same production. It features a stirring new song “Start a Wave”: Disney music at its emotional best. To view this spectacle you can either join a virtual at 12:00 pm or walk up on a first-come-first-served basis.
Who doesn’t love fireworks at Disneyland?! “Wonderous Journeys” will transform Main Street, U.S.A., Sleeping Beauty Castle, the façade of “it’s a small world” and the Rivers of America into artists’ canvases with lighting effects, customized projections, and more. This new nighttime spectacular will take you on an epic journey throughout the 100 years of Walt Disney Animation Studios with the Magic of storytelling we all love.
The Disneyland Hotels, and Downtown Disney will be adorned in beautiful, platinum-infused décor. Elegant embellishments on Buena Vista Street at Disney California Adventure Park will sparkle with platinum banners and Disney100 medallions. Around the resort, you will find platinum banners, statues, and decorations that not only make great photo spots but also will interact with the Magic Band+ adding more magic for Disney100 later this year. Of course you have to dress for the occasion as Mickey and His Friends have new platinum-inspired looks designed to reflect the optimism and creativity that are at the heart of everything Disney. Plus you can shop for your own D100 outfits and souvenirs.
After a long hiatus, Magic Happens will parade through Main Street again on February 24th. Led by Mickey, this parade gives us things we have never seen before. Aurora’s dress will change from pink to blue before your very eyes – right out of the beloved classic Sleeping Beauty. There is so much more to enjoy with this parade and we all will be sure to be dazzled. Last but not least on March 8th with a brand new look Mickey’s Toontown will reopen with a brand new look. Other than being the home base for Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway railway this wacky area will include more play activities and attractions than ever before! There will also be grassy play spaces where you can unwind and take a breather.
